Group Classes

Group classes are currently held at Sellwood Dog Supply and Dog Gone Happy, (see map of class locations here). See our class descriptions below, or go directly to the class schedule.

We use positive reinforcement to teach dogs and people! Clickers are provided (but optional) and each class ends with a graduation celebration that includes a talent show and raffle with prizes for each dog. We limit the number of dogs in each class to provide the best possible learning environment, so please sign up early to save your spot. Each class is instructed by Katrin and a training assistant. Not all classes are offered all the time, so please let us know if you're interested in a class that's not currently on the schedule, and we'll do our best to accommodate.

Kinderpuppy 1

This is a 6-week beginning obedience and socialization course, designed especially for puppies between 10 and 20 weeks. Proper socialization is the most vital component of your puppy’s healthy development into a friendly, well-adjusted adult dog. In addition to socialization, this class also covers basic obedience training (sit, down, stay, come, leave it, and settle on mat) as well as problem prevention (biting, barking, chewing) using positive reinforcement. We will also cover puppy basics such as house-training, crating, and proper socialization. Each class will include several supervised play sessions. No puppies at first meeting. Puppies must have current DHPP vaccinations. $175.

Kinderpuppy 2 + AKC STAR Puppy Test

This is a 6-week intermediate obedience and socialization course, for puppies up to one year old who have completed Kinderpuppy 1 or an equivalent puppy class. Because continued socialization is such an important part of your puppy’s healthy development into a friendly, well-adjusted adult dog, this class will focus on intermediate obedience and off-leash play and socialization. Adequate socialization to other puppies teaches puppies proper canine communication skills, develops their bite inhibition, and helps prevent future dog-aggression. In addition to socialization, this class also covers intermediate obedience training (more reliable sit, down, stand, stay, come, leave it, and settle) with a focus on greater distractions and fading out food rewards, as well as problem prevention (jumping up, pulling on leash). Each class will include several supervised play sessions. The AKC STAR Puppy Test (the puppy version of the Canine Good Citizen test) will be administered on the last day of class. Puppies must have current DHPP vaccinations. First class meeting is for people only. $175.
